A man and his wife are driving cross-country from Mass. to San Diego when their new car mysteriously breaks down. A truck driver stops and assists them by taking his wife to the nearest diner to phone for help but in reality is kidnapping her, causing her husband to track down his wife and the kidnapper himself. After their new Jeep conks out on a desolate stretch of Arizona highway, a well-heeled Massachusetts couple accepts the help of a kindly, honest-seeming trucker, who drives the wife to a diner while the husband stays behind to "protect" the vehicle. After saying goodbye, the husband gets two surprises: the Jeep starts, and his wife never actually arrived at the diner, and the trucker doesn't recollect having picked her up at all… Boy, do I have quite the story on my search for this movie. I first saw this on late night television around 2000 when I was about 14. I loved the movie, but I didn't know what the title was and my parents didn't have cable or a TV guide. So I took it in my own hands to find the movie, no matter how long it took or how I got it. I searched every video store in my town. And I mean everything. Every blockbuster, Hollywood Video, every back section of a grocery store, everything. After five unsuccessful years of searching, I gave up. But two years later, in 2007, I got back into it. Nothing again for two years. So after giving up on that, I decided to use Yahoo Answers. I finally got it…. after three tries.<br/><br/>To be finished at a later date. This movie had me on the edge of my seat throughout. It takes 10-15 minutes to really get going (and even in the introduction the movie had me interested), and once it gets going, it doesn't stop until the very end! My favorite movies are suspenseful ones, and this is, no question for me, THE most suspenseful movie I've ever seen. When I first saw it in the theatres when it came out, I was with two of my friends, and they both agreed with me on that opinion. I have since watched it with at least 3 different people, and they also agreed. It's simply a killer suspense! It is SEVERELY underrated and underwatched. Go rent it now - or if you like suspense - there is no question that you will want to buy this movie. The acting is very convincing, even though characters are not developed at any extremely deep level at the same time. This is not the type of movie where I was looking for depth in characters - that would have just taken away from the suspense. I rate it a 10. Bucking the lava tide of computer special effects gushing out of Hollywood this season, the makers of Breakdown use old-fashioned ingenuity – plus a compelling star, a fast- paced mystery and a deadpan villain – to come up with a sizzler.
